Making Sense of Your Past Worth for Teens

Support your teen in breaking free from past hurts and becoming the person they want to be. Participants typically show significant clinical improvement in self-worth at program completion.

Adopted teens often face unique challenges with identity, belonging, and feelings of loss, which can impact their self-worth more than non-adopted teens. These struggles may lead to confusion, shame, and withdrawal from family and peers, complicating emotional and social development. Workshops that clinically support adopted teens focus on fostering a sense of being valued and helping them build confidence through connection and acceptance. Quality time and genuine belief in their worth from caregivers and mentors are vital for enhancing their self-esteem and resilience.

This program is designed for teens desiring to obtain positive self-worth or secure attachment. Participants will go through a series of sessions in a group format designed to help them understand how the events in their lives have contributed to low self-worth. The classes focus on developing an understanding of the “lies” an individual believes about themselves, such as “I am not good enough,” or “I am not smart enough,” or “I have no patience” and how to replace these lies with truth. In addition, once a participant is released from the beliefs associated with the past, the sessions focus on rebuilding a new life based on positive self-worth as well as how to maintain these gains. Making Sense of Your Past Worth was created by Cindy R. Lee, LCSW in partnership with HALO Project International.

WHAT DID THE TEENS SAY ABOUT THE PROGRAM?

Upon completion of the program, teens were asked to share some of their experiences with workshop participants. Below is just some of what they said:

“I used to doubt my relationships with other people. I would always wonder if I was being annoying or not being friendly or fun enough. I don’t have that problem anymore because I am confident in my relationships with other people.”

“This is an experience you will keep and cherish for the rest of your life. My self-worth has improved so much. Before I was very insecure and didn’t make a whole lot of good friends. But now I know my worth and I am able to make better decisions and friends.”

“I would say before participating in MSOYW I didn’t always stand-up for myself, but after the program I have higher self-worth andstand-up for myself more often.”

“My self-worth has improved tremendously. Before this program, I didn’t realize the unhealthy relationships I was in, but by participating in MSOYW, I now have removed or distanced myself from those people.”

“I really recommend taking this course. It really increases your sense of compassion and acceptance for yourself and others.”
